Water for Wellness: Cool Down With These Healthy Fruit Popsicles

As the warm summer weather continues to blaze, we’ll do anything to escape the heat. Although it is tempting to blast the AC all day, you may be looking for other, energy-efficient ways to cool down. Well, look no further, you can try out this water-based popsicle recipe right at home for a fun, quick, and simple treat to enjoy on those unbearably hot days.

Because these popsicles are water-based, they are a healthy alternative to your typical store-bought popsicles. The filtered water and fresh fruit blend will provide you with a refreshing boost and keep you energized in the draining heat. This water-based recipe could also be a fun activity to make together with some friends when it's just too hot to go anywhere or do anything else.

If you struggle with your daily recommended water intake, these pops could be a great way to stay hydrated. Count your Vitamin C intake for the day by selecting oranges, kiwis, or strawberries for your pops. These fruits contain at least 70 milligrams of Vitamin C per serving, as well as other sources of fiber and antioxidants to provide you with a great source of nutrients.

To start, you’ll need:

  • Approximately 3/4 cup cold, filtered water from your Brio Cooler
  • A collection of your favorite fruit (whole pieces and slices)
  • Blender or food processor
  • Large strainer
  • Large bowl and spoon
  • Popsicle molds OR paper or plastic cups
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or agave (optional)

Step 1: Start by choosing your favorite fruit, or an assortment of many for a variety of different flavors for your popsicles. 

Step 2:Cut up your fruit and toss it into a blender. If you're adding honey or agave for an extra kick of sweetness, add it to the blender.

Step 3: Next, add your ¾ cups of filtered water for a smoother blend. Once finely blended, pour the mixture through a strainer and into a large bowl.

Pro tip: Use the cold water from your Brio cooler to speed up the freezing process. 

Step 4: Before adding your blended mixture to the popsicle molds, add more fruit slices to the insides of your molds for a tasty frozen element in your popsicle. You can make each popsicle unique by putting your own creative spin on each mold, experimenting with different colors, tastes, and textures.

Step 5: Once you are pleased with your fruit placements and presentations in the mold, add your blended mixture to the mold. If you're using a cup as your mold, pour your mixture in and insert popsicles sticks in the middle. You’ll want to leave a little extra room at the top of the mold, and before sticking them into the freezer. It might also be a good idea to tap the molds against the counter lightly to make sure those extra air bubbles escape. 

After leaving them in the freezer for about at least 6 hours, your homemade water-based popsicles will be ready for tasting! Leave them overnight for the best results.
